Windshield Cracked No more

It's funny how one moment I am holding back tears at work because life, at the time, seemed to have crashed through the roof and landed squarely on my shoulders and then the next moment I am having my car washed and my windshield fixed by Chad Michael Murray.

Imagine my delight when this face...

walks over to you in the waiting room to tell you your car is ready. He hands you a name card and proceeds to tell you that he can fix your windshield crack for free, but it will take another 10 minutes.

I'm surprised that I even understood what he was saying because I am pretty sure I drooled a little when I saw him. I was not about to say no to Mr. Murray and a free windshield fix. Even if it was going to take the entire afternoon let alone 10 minutes.

So I watched as he set up his tools and began to fix Chuck up.

He was so friendly and we chatted as he worked on Chuck. After it was done, he handed me another name card and told me that if anything happens to the windshield, they will take care of it completely for free.
I thanked him and played around with the idea of asking him out.

I have never asked a guy out and I had no idea how to...so I chickened out and got back into my car.

As I was about to pull away, he knocked on my window with that contagious smile of his.

I slid my window down and he asked me to marry him and I said yes!

Jokes, because even Chad Michael Murray needs a first date before I would say yes.

I rolled down my window and he goes, "I was in such a rush that I totally forgot to ask you to fill this information out. My  boss would have been upset with me."  And flashes that smile that could melt an ice cap in the middle of Antarctica.

I finish filling it out and hand him the form as he flashes another smile.

Now, what is the safest way to re-chip one's windshield?

You are absolutely right...

...I just don't know what I was thinking.

I mean, when a girl asks a good guy friend out {completely platonic} for a specific event that requires a date, it must be weird.

Because, like, what if you happen to be attracted to every and any female at said event, and you couldn't hit on them... {GASP!} because you were on a date with me.

I know, I would be ruining everything.

I am being so selfish, and it would make things sooo miserable for YOU!

However, let's pretend that  I had asked you, the only polite way of declining is to completely ignore the question.

Act like it never happened.

This works well for everyone. Don't be an adult, or a man for that matter.
Instead, tell the girl to make more friends because that is just a lot of friends getting married and too many weddings to attend.
Don't give her any more explanation, that would just be too understanding of you.
But it's ok, continue to text her useless information in order to complete the act of ignoring a date.

OR even better, seek the girl out. Ask HER to hang out with you.

Go as far as to call her, tell her you have some errands to finish and will be calling her back in twenty minutes.

And then never contact her.

Don't let her know why.
Sending a text that simply tells the girl you aren't/can't/don't want to hang out is too much effort.

So just let her wonder for the rest of the night, and when you see her at work the next day, walk away quickly.

You don't want to have to explain why you disappeared.

Luckily, I've done somethings right in my life. I received an awesome letter from my best friend today. He is serving in California, and his letter came just in the nick of time!

What do I have to say to all the other men previously mentioned?

Grow up. And get out of my life.

BYU boys are hot.

So the first week of school has come and gone. Like any other year, homework and quizzes have filled my life. But what has surprised me {in a very good way} this year is how much more I can  love my university.

During my first fall semester as a BYU student I woke up every morning excited for school. I bought BYU apparel and attended all the on-campus activities. I cheered and supported my school as much as any other student did and thought that I was truly a coug.

My sophomore year could have been described as being...rocky. I was an employee for BYU and even had a tricked out shirt and name tag to prove it. I went to all the football games and my collection of BYU gear grew even more. While my fall and winter semester of last year wasn't the best moments in my life my adoration and respect for BYU never lessened. If anything, BYU was the only thing that I was actually happy about!

Now that I am a junior {gah. Before I know it I am going to be turning 30!} I fully expected to have the whole college experience under my belt. I walked onto campus that first week and noticed all the clean and lovely looking people on campus. There were noticeably more freshmen {BYU accepted 70%ish more applicants this year compared to the 63% they usually accepted} but their excited mood just added to the campus. Every where I looked I saw BYU. BYU backpacks, BYU caps, BYU shoes, BYU t-shirts of every kind were parading around campus. It was a beautiful sight and once again, my love for BYU grew even more!

Jackie's professor was discussing patriotism and how because Americans are constantly surrounded and building it up that is how patriotism is created within a person. He applied it to the fact that the reason some students are absolute die-hard fans for BYU is because we are constantly surrounded by it. We are constantly told how amazing and blessed we are to be BYU students and what not.

On Saturday, BYU won the Washington Huskies in football and as I looked around, I saw the navy blue and white with the famous Y logo on everyone. All of the boys in that football stadium wearing blue looked so smart and handsome!

As I was waiting in line to grab lunch, the line was getting to be extremely long but a nice stranger started up a nice conversation as we stood in line which resulted in me making a new friend. He was extending his friendship to whoever stood next to him.

Just today as Jackie and I were heading to the HBLL {Study like a scholar, scholar.} we ran into our high school administrator. He was giving a guest lecture and asked us what direction the MARB was in. We pointed and gave him relative directions when all of a sudden a tall and strong looking man came up and said, "I am heading to the MARB too, I can show you the way." We said good-bye and the nice stranger took our principal on his way.
I can't get over how nice that was. It was so simple but the fact that he was so pro-active to speak up and do a small and simple act of service said a thousand things about this boy even though I don't  know him.

Little things like that make, in my opinion, BYU the best school in the world.
 Did you know that...

BYU's MBA and undergraduate business program is ranked #1 in the nation?
Or that the accounting program is #1 as well?
BYU law school is 41th in the nation?
the Cougarettes took nationals six times and recently in 2010?
we are also ranked 10th in number of students who go on to receive doctorates?
or that 70% of BYU students are fluent in a second language?
the BYU ballroom team has won nationals every year since 1982?
BYU football team is in the top 20 programs?
BYU now has the only state of the art broadcasting truck and center in the West?
that BYU holds the world record for largest water balloon fight?
BYU basketball is ranked among the top 25 programs in the NCAA?
and that the Harold B. Lee Library was ranked #1 in 2004?
the man who created TV, Philo Farnsworth, was a BYU graduate?
The Princeton Review ranked BYU students as the happiest and having the highest quality of life in the nation?

One nice thing a day....

I had a wonderful day.

As I was walking down the flight of stairs in the JFSB to my marriage and family class, I saw a man in a light blue button up shirt walking a couple of yards ahead.

I watched as he held the door open for the people behind him and then bend over to pick up an empty bag of animal crackers.

The trash had just lofted onto the bottom of the stairway and was laying between the doors of the building.

The young man didn't look around, as if to see anyone who would give him recognition. He very nicely placed the trash into the nearest trash can.
Then headed to class.

As I watched him do this small yet nice act of kindness, I couldn't help but smile.

I want my future companion to do acts of kindness like that.

It made my week seeing that man pick up a piece of trash. Then it got me thinking, how many times have I affected someone through small and simple acts of kindness?
Have I ever affected anyone?

I want to what that man did. Do service out of the goodness of my heart and hope that it positively affects someone.
:)

Then I went to the Math lab for some homework help. I was doing the online problems and was stuck on the last two problems.
I couldn't figure out what the substitution was and as I was debating on giving up, a young man sitting on the end of the table said, "Hey, are you working on the online homework too?"
I nodded and said that the last two were giving me trouble.
He said, "I just finished, maybe I can help you on them?"
He got up, moved his laptop, notebook and backpack, and sat down right next to me.
I showed him the problem, and he sat there scratching out the problem with me. He wasn't asking me annoying get to know you questions or being overly friendly. He was just helping me.

He didn't leave until I had finished all the math problems. As he was packing up to go, I looked up and sincerely thanked him for his help. He smiled and said, "you're welcome."
I didn't even get his name but it made me happy that there was someone so nice as to take time out of their busy schedule to help me on homework that they had already completed.
Even when I had not been asking, he did it completely on his own.

So today, I found two good deeds.
They were the best good deeds I have seen all year. It changed my negative perspective on people
(specifically men) and how I need to be a better person.

I sincerely thank those two strangers for the gift they have given me. Even at this late hour, I still feel overwhelmingly happy just thinking about it.

I worked at the restaurant tonight, and I am incredibly tired so I will be calling it a night and head to bed.
There is 3 more school days left.

Isn't it crazy how fast this school year has gone by?
I still remember the first day of fall semester....
