Always a bridesmaid. At least that is how the saying goes.
My dear friend, Jacqueline, is engaged! The story of her and Drew, her fiancee, goes way back. They knew of each other even before they knew each other.
I've known Jacqueline since high school, we first met in seminary. A lame game of signs brought us together, and we later joined PACK together. After spending a year of organizing fundraisers and service projects, we became better friends. It wasn't until college, however, when I became her RA that Jac and I became even better friends. We roomed together later that year and the rest is history.
With that being said, she has given me the honor and opportunity to be her Maid of Honor at her wedding.
This will be the third time I will have had a close friend get married. Third time that I will be involved in wedding plans. And FOURTH time that I will be throwing a bridal shower/bachelorette party.
All in the last 9 months.
And the best part? I secretly love doing this stuff.
I love organizing, I love putting together events. I love making things look nice. And I love how happy people are at these nicely organized events.
I love it so much that wedding planner is the only other career path that I have ever thought of doing if I were not to go to law school.
{Occasionally when I get really stressed or upset at school, the idea of becoming a wedding planner becomes more and more serious...}
I don't know why I don't actually go and
become a wedding planner. It's not a bad profession, a very classy one at that. While the pay differs, it does not require a degree of any type. I could either start my own business or attempt to work for another. Each job will be a different experience, and you get to be a part of making the most important day in one's life special.
Many of my friends actually try to persuade me to pursue this path. And the answer is I simply don't know. From the moment I can remember, I can only think of two professions I wanted to be. A vet and a lawyer. The vet idea was quickly marked off the list after finding out how much schooling it would take.
So since the 4th grade, I wanted to go to law school.
It has only been the last few years that I have considered wedding planning as a vague option.
One that if law school, being a lawyer, and entering the foreign service does not work out, then
maybe I would actually consider it.
I've played with the idea of being a lawyer/wedding planner. I could do part-time work at wedding planning companies while being a lawyer.
But this idea is like playing with food. I can't have my cake and eat it too.
Especially wedding cakes,
no one actually wants to eat those.
