A break isn't really a break at all

So Christmas break just flew by.

It was awfully nice to sleep in until ten and take my sweet time getting ready for a day filled with...absolutely nothing.

It was nice, knowing that I could do ABSOLUTELY anything I wanted. Or nothing at all. No schedule, no deadlines, no tasks, and no to-do lists.

Ok, ok that's a lie. I am the queen of to-do lists. Of course, I made to-do lists, but they were for fun things like Christmas present ideas and movies to watch.

However, Christmas break also means time with the family. For a female college student attending BYU, this translates into one thing.

"So are you dating anyone?"

Yep. The visits to the family ward becomes a repetitive questionnaire from people who assume that because they have witness you in diapers they are absolutely allowed to private information. Even the family friends at Christmas dinner see you as a menace to society as long as you stay single.

It's not necessarily the questions that bother me. {Ok, maybe partially...}
It's the fact that  I have no answers for these inquisitive people!
I don't know why I don't have a guy, I don't know why I seem to only date tools, and I don't know how I have managed to survive at BYU for all these years without a ring on my finger.

Not that I am implying that they are implying that anything wrong is with me that is preventing me from being in a relationship that will potentially lead to marriage.

No, they practically tell me that I am sinning because I have not placed married as my top priority.

I'm implying that these people think that by questioning my relationship status, I might come to realization that I indeed am still single and that realization will simply change it.

Oh no wait, I know this whether or not you ask about it. Thankyouverymuch.

A recent blog inspired the idea of lying. Next time someone asks, this is what I'm going to say.

"Oh yeah. He is great. He has a trust fund like you wouldn't believe. Of course he is handsome and intelligent and spiritual as well. He would be here right now, but he is finishing a medical mission in Somalia to get his application ready for John Hopkins medical school. There shouldn't really be an issue with getting in though, because his dad just built a new wing for their hospital for children with cancer. He flies helicopters and writes poetry. We are incredibly in love."

If they ask later on why I haven't been able to produce Prince Charming, I'll simply explain,

"He died in a terrible and fiery plane crash over Bangladesh when he was dropping off donated library books to the school children. Yes, those poor school children. They must be devastated"

Maybe that will take care of those pesky questions.

As a matter of fact, I would love to be married.

Oh yeah, sure. Marriage. {I would be awesome at it!}

I would love to be married purely for the fact that all the relationship questions would stop. I would love to be married since that is the only appropriate way for me to be seen as an actual person contributing to society.

I appreciate the concern. I sincerely do, and I would hope that someday in the future I can lick and stamp that wedding invitation to you, but until then I am perfectly happy where I am, doing what I am doing.

And if I'm content, then so should you.
