As I listed off the names of TV shows to my co-worker, I realized I had become a TV whore. And it's really not a good thing since a) it is summer time. I should be out having fun. Luckily I find time to do that PLUS watching an embarrassingly amount of TV; b) I have to study. If only I studied with the same excitement and fervor that I do with TV shows, I would ace everything.
But the first step in overcoming any addiction is recognize you have a problem. So here it is, I'm going to list for you just how extent my problem is...and maybe you can check out a couple of these episodes for yourself and see just why I am so hooked.
Vampire Diaries
I blame this obsession on B. I had watched the pilot when it first started and found it awful. Only to find out, several years and seasons later, that the series does not get interesting or rather addicting until episode 10. Because that was where I skipped to and that is how I got hooked.
The show is awful. The plot is predictable and the lines are so cheesy it's hard to admit to anyone you watch it, but the cast is beautiful and oddly, the characters have a nice development to them. I finished all the seasons in like...2.5 weeks.
Master Chef
While I can't actually blame anyone for this show, I can say that my father had a really big influence in my fascination and love for food shows. As a little girl, my father enjoyed watching food shows. Not really to scratch down new recipes or anything, but he loved seeing how other chefs made food. He was quite animated about it actually, voicing in when he knew that a particular chef screwed up the lobster or complimented the choice of seasoning on certain cuts of beef. I'm not an aspiring cook, nor do I actually want to cook, but it's a childhood memory. So I watch it a lot. And recently Master Chef is intense. Mix Gordon Ramsey's potty mouth with a blind girl and a twangy cowboy and 10 other contestants wanting to win Master Chef title and you got the show.
Big (Korean Drama)
Alright alright, I'm Asian so what if I watch a lot a few K dramas here and there. The thing with Asian TV shows is that they are always innocent and clean. While that can sound boring, it's not. They throw some humor, add some clean and cute romance with some pretty cast members and you have the makings of any Asian TV show, plus they don't do "seasons". At the end of the series, it's done. On to the next idea. Don't let me begin the list of Asian TV shows I have seen. Korea is particular good at these and recently BIG is the latest. Honestly, I am watching it as it airs in Korea. If you are interested, I'll give you a personal list of references to start off with :)
The Bachelorette
I use to hate this show, and I actually might still cringe occasionally when I watch it. This season, however, intrigued me because of Emily, the Bachelorette, and how down-to-earth she seemed, I started watching it. {And really, I was bored.} Now I'm dying to find out who she picks.
Sherlock
I present to you BBC's latest TV drama series, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. I am a sucker for anything Sherlock Holmes-esque. {Hence my 7 season long addiction to House} It's based in present time so it's interesting how technology has coupled with solving crimes that the original Sherlock would have. Fast pace plot and talented cast, don't watch it unless you like these kind of mystery solving shows.
Flash Point
Since I am watching TV shows from different countries, wouldn't hurt to throw Canada in. Flashpoint is like CSI/Law & Order but without all the talking and more just saving people with guns. Not really stimulating nor innovative, but somehow the end of each episode tugs at my heart string when someone is saved and the team gets to pat each other on the back and call it a day.
The Tudors
It's HBO, so not family friendly. I have ALWAYS been fascinated by Henry the Eighth. Besides the countless books I have read on him, his daughters and wives, I just watched the show...for the second time. Be warned of adult scenes, but really it's an accurate depiction of the reformation of the church, the fall of Anne Boleyn, and Henry's many relationships.
So there you go. I guess you could say I'm not picky when it comes to TV shows.
