Sunday Family Dinners

Sunday is our family day. With work, school, sports practice, extracurricular activities and the likes, it is practically impossible for our family to sit down together and just have a meal.

So Sunday became the perfect day for all of the family to be able to be together. Several Sundays (I know, it's been forever since I've updated), we had our cousins over.

We started a game of Jenga...turns out we're all pretty good at it. We got the Jenga blocks to build so high up, no one was allowed to walk in fear that the vibrations would cause the blocks to fall over.

YUM! Tomatoes are my favorite, but these sun dried tomatoes are amazing!

Dad thought that his Jenga playing skills could be translated to glass bottles...good thing we only had so many glass bottles for him to use.

Baby E is getting cuter and cuter every time we see him! He just fell asleep while laying on my dad's stomach. He is just adorable.

Oh, Baby

My cousin had her baby! Lil' Ethan is such a good boy, he just lays there staring intently at whoever happens to be holding him.

And sometimes he makes some pretty adorable facial expressions.

Speaking of babies, my good friend C had her baby too! Sage is a little miracle, the doctors didn't think she would live. But not only has she and her mom returned home, Sage is eating and breathing all on her own!

L and I had just gone to a friend's baby shower before we visited C. Besides L and I, everyone else at the baby shower was either pregnant or holding a newborn. Then here is C, just gave birth about ten days ago and looks like she just ate a big lunch. I know maybe a handful of women who can go through PREGNANCY and still look what C looks like.

While I am super happy to see/hold all these precious babies, I have not once this past month felt any baby cravings. Probably because I am not even close to having one, but I am so relieved and grateful that I am not a mother and that there are other brave women who have decided to take on this type of responsibility. And on that note, I'm getting tired just from looking at all these sleeping babies.

'night.

Oh baby

I was at the BYU bookstore with Heather just strolling through the aisle, skimming through books. We stopped at a Mother-Daughter section. There were children books with cute pictures and clever parenting books.

I left the section baby hungry.
It didn't help when, later that day, I saw the cutest little girl smiling and waving to me. She had a round little baby belly and tiny little hands that she waved in the air to show her excitement. I could have just snatched her up and taken her home with me right then and there if it wasn't so illegal....

When I was traveling in Hong Kong, I immediately noticed the large amounts of cute asian babies. They had chubby little cheeks and big brown eyes.
I am pretty glad that I will, someday, have an adorable baby just like all the babies running around in Hong Kong.

I just think it is fascinating how women naturally have the ability to care and nurture children. A friend and I were discussing a blind date that went horrible. The date had decided to discuss the importance of a women staying at home.......
Maybe he thought that I, being a women, would be impressed by his ignorant and masochistic opinions...

Yah this was a topic I have a hard time with. All the time.

The date argued that if his wife loved him and their children, she would stay home........

{me taking deep breaths...}

Before I go on, I want to make it clear that this man was very nice and thoughtful. He is very intelligent and has great ambitions and goals set for himself.
That said, he continued to dig an even bigger hole for his grave.

He felt like a women should not be in the work force when she has children at home and even went as far as to say that he would never allow his wife to work.

{ARGH}

I can see his point of view and think it is nice that he wants to be able to provide for his family so that his wife would not have to work if she did not wish to. I agreed that one's largest responsibility as a mother is the children and that she should do her best in teaching and raising their kids.

I do not, however, believe that it is an either or situation. I think that balance is needed in all aspects of life including work and family. This balance could be anything from taking a couple years off in order to raise the children or working from home.
If women were meant solely to give birth and raise children, I would not be wasting my time, money, and energy in obtaining an education and I would have definitely paid MUCH more attention in Young Womens.

I fully plan on working whether or not I have children. I think that women, like men, should have other hobbies, interests, and goals outside of their home and family such as a career.

I can not and will not date or marry someone who forbids me to do what I enjoy or state that I do not love my children because I did not give up my entire life just so I can sit at home.

Don't worry, I corrected him by telling him that I have more love for my unborn children in my pinkie toe then his entire body could ever hold let alone imagine and I wish him luck finding a brainless wife for his children.

Moral of the story?

Nothing would make me happier then starting a family.
My husband and I will be equal in being breadwinners and parents.
But if not, I will be a mother with or without being a wife.
I have always been a strong supporter of adoption and am planning on adopting someday so I don't plan on having a Y chromosome telling me how to live my life.

P.S.
He thinks my children are going to be little devils, {I have NO idea where he would get that kind of idea :) }I resent that and am confident that my children will not only be well-mannered but perfect.
Because they will be my children.

Thankyouverymuch.
